Absolut Vodka has gone viral with an ad campaign of a map from 1848 that shows the U.S. – Mexico border where it was before the Mexican-American war of 1848. Back then what is now California, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona all belonged to Mexico.

So now take a look at this ad and I ask you: Are you offended? Does it make you angry? Does it make you laugh?

Absolut Vodka Mexico Map

Turns out a lot of people in the U.S. are getting angry and claiming they will never buy Absolut Vodka again! Some went as far as to say they have poured all of the Absolut brand Vodka they own down the drain in protest.

Is the ad great, funny, or offensive? The answer: all of the above! This ad is a great marketing example for creating a ton of buzz for a brand.

You can read more about this and some crazy reactions over at the LA Times.

It makes me want to find out about the Mexican-American war.
Doesn’t offend me, but then I’m from New Zealand.

Not offended! It’s a reality of our past.

While we are not out having wars for land anymore, we are still out having wars and the US has been seen as a bully almost since inception.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Hilarious. Just to show how greedy the ”gringos” have always been in terms of having the power over the rest. Also, a bit sad, because we all know our country was mutilated thanks to a stupid president that sold that territory for 25 million USD.
